It’s great to see all the good things that is taking place with the Guyanese committee, I would love to know more about upcoming events.
Amazing 2007
2007 was an amazing celebration of Guyana in New York City For the 41st year of independence. Hollywood actor Sean Patrick Thomas joined the event with his family. Of course he’s Guyanese American.And New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg proclaimed Saturday May 26th, 2007, ‘Guyanese Independence Day’ In New York City.
Several top Guyanese artists thrilled onlookers and nationals at the outdoor flag raising ceremony as the ‘Charging Bull’ looked on, tour bus patrons waves and cameras flashed constantly.Performances came from veteran performer, John ‘Slingshot’ Drepaul, The Dheeraj Cultural Foundation’s Ghungroos Dance School; James Richmond and Francis Quamina Farrier; Courtney Noel, Almira Brasse and Clifford John along with rising young deejays, DJ Praksh and Mr. H2o WataFlow as well as the emerging Triad group; Moses Josiah, Akayow Rudder, Verna Walcott Impression Dancer Theater and The Malini Bose-Shaw Nritya Kala Kendra International Academy. Bowling Green Association Chair Arthur Piccolo welcomed all to Bowling Green as Haitian Councilman Mathieu Eugene raised the American flag and Felicia Persaud and Ambassador Bayney Karran hoisted Guyana’s Golden Arrow Head.
Moments later, inside the historic Alexander Hamilton US Customs Building, the First Annual Independence Day Leadership Award were presented to actor Sean Thomas as well as movie producer Rohit Jagessar of ‘Guiana 1838,’ movie director, Mikey Nivelli of ‘Rainbow Raani,’ actress CCH Pounder and boxer Vivian Harris. Joining the special tribute inside of the fabulous rotunda Grenada Consul General to NY Allen Mcguire, Chair of Caricom Consulate Corps.A special tribute presentation was made to former Guyanese cricketers Sewdatt Shivnarine, Vishal Nagamootoo and Sudesh Dhaniram. Among special guests was the special advisor to US General Services Administrator, Laurita Doan. Thomas’ wife, actress, Aonika Laurent Thomas, a native of New Orleans, Bollywood Actor Kumar Guarav, executives from Western Union Guyana and NY; Laparkan and North American airlines among others.
